This study examines the validity of the product life cycle concept for selected industrial component products. A descriptive qualitative model for the product life cycle is presented and empirically tested. The results show three types of life cycles. These results are correlated with the degree of innovation the products under study represent, and a significant correlation between the shape of the product life cycle and the degree of product newness is shown.
