Today there are virtually no companies that consider going outside the organization for executive talent to be a sign of failure. Recent experience has demonstrated that attracting outstanding executives–from outside the firm or within it–increases the chances for business success and serves to stimulate high-level performance. What used to be called "headhunting" is now a classic professional approach to executive recruiting. This article defines the search process and points out how this search can increase the firm's chances of attracting a winner.
